DEEP, Distance Education Extended programs, is the outreach at NCSSM affiliated with NCSSM Online. It provides instructional resources to K-12 educators throughout North Carolina. A curriculum guide is provided by DEEP outlining their offerings. If presentation facilities are available, any school in the state, public or private, as well as homeschooling groups, can participate in this supplemental mathematics and science instruction through video conference. DEEP also offers Teacher Professional Development Modules. Unlike NCSSM, or NCSSM Online, the DEEP programs are not competitive in nature, nor do they exclusively involve high level mathematics and science courses limited to high school juniors and seniors. DEEP provides opportunities for any group to participate in the lessons from kindergarten through twelfth grade, with age appropriate curriculum aligned with state standards (Public schools of north carolina, 2012). For outlying communities, more advanced coursework and experiences are made available to many students and teachers throughout North Carolina who would not normally have access to to such resources. |
